Rigid Knives Ripper ~ Vintage 1970`s - 80`s

The Rigid Knives Ripper is a vintage American-made fixed-blade knife recognized by collectors for its heavy-duty, "overbuilt" construction. Originally produced in the early 1970s, these knives are often described by enthusiasts as "tanks" due to their solid build and thick blade stock.

 Specifications & Design
  • Blade Construction: Features a full-tang design, typically using thick 440C stainless steel stock (approximately .191" to .193" thickness).
  • Blade Style: Most variations feature an upswept clip point blade with a satin finish and a distinct swedge along the spine. Some models include a sharpened top edge.
  • Handle Materials: Handles are commonly found with brass bolsters, guards, and pommels paired with rosewood or other wood scales. Later variations or custom versions may feature black linen micarta scales.
  • Dimensions:
    • Blade Length: 4 1/2"
    • Overall Length: 10 "
    • Weight: Substantial for its size, often weighing around 9.9 to 11.9 ounces due to the heavy brass fittings.

Manufacturing History
  • Founding: Rigid Knives was established in 1970 by Bill Duff and Don Colum, former employees of Buck Knives who wanted to create beefier, semi-custom versions of classic designs.
  • Collectibility: Original USA-made models (stamped "USA") are highly sought after by collectors.
  • Brand Evolution: Later versions of the Rigid name were used by companies like United Cutlery for overseas production, which are generally considered to be of different quality than the vintage originals
