Keen Kutter K68 3/4S ~ Vintage  1940`s to 1960`s

The Keen Kutter K68 3/4S is a vintage folding pocket knife produced under the legendary Keen Kutter brand name, originally belonging to the E.C. Simmons Hardware Company of St. Louis, Missouri.

While specific surviving specimens vary by their production era, Keen Kutter knives following the K68 pattern framework generally share the following characteristics:

• Knife Pattern: It is built as a Peanut Jack or Serpentine Jack style pocket knife, known for its distinct, slightly curved S-shape frame.
• Blade Configuration: Features a 2-blade setup, traditionally consisting of a master clip-point blade accompanied by a smaller secondary pen blade.
• Blade Material: Crafted from traditional carbon steel, highly regarded by collectors for its ability to take and hold a razor-sharp edge.
• Handle / Scales: The "S" suffix usually points to synthetic composition handles (such as black celluloid or plastic composition). Other iterations of the K68 frame utilized mother-of-pearl or jigged bone.
• Dimensions: Typically a compact pocket carrier, measuring roughly 2-3/4 inches when closed.
• Manufacturing History: Depending on the exact tang stamp, mid-20th-century versions of these knives were part of the late Shapleigh Hardware production era (post-1940) and were contract-manufactured by iconic American cutlery houses like Schrade or Camillus.

NKCA Grading system

MINT: A factory fresh knife, absolutely original as it came from the manufacturer, not carried or sharpened, a perfect knife.

NEAR MINT: A new knife that has seen sometimes, show some slight carry or shop wear, blades snap perfectly, handles show no cracks.

EXCELLENT: Shows no more than 10% blade wear, handles are sound, no cracks, blades snap good.

VERY GOOD: About 25% blade wear, slight cracks in handles, may have one lazy blade, stamping clearly visible to the naked eye, no blades changed or repaired.

FAIR: 50% blade wear, blades lazy, cracks and chips in handles, handles replaced with same type, blades repaired, stampings faint but readable with a glass.

POOR: Blades very worn, handles bad or missing, blades have been replaced with the same type, reading of the stamp is almost impossible, even with a glass, good mostly only for parts.
