Ulu Factory bear knife ~ Vintage 1980`s

Ulu Factory bear knives from the 1980s are characterized by their traditional semi-circular blades and handles featuring etched or scrimshaw-style bear designs. These knives were produced in Anchorage, Alaska, and  included a wooden display stand and a leather sheath.

Design and Construction
The 1980s-era knives from The Ulu Factory followed the Iñupiat (Alaskan) style, where the blade ends fit directly into a central handle.
  • Blade: Most vintage models feature a 440 stainless steel blade, usually with a single-beveled precision ground edge. Standard sizes for these collectibles often range from a 4-inch to a 6.25-inch cutting edge.
  • Handle Materials: 1980s versions were commonly made with  a "cultured ivory" (high-strength resin) designed to mimic natural ivory.
  • Bear Imagery: These models frequently featured laser-etched or scrimshaw-style designs of polar bears, bear cubs, or bears.

Typical Vintage Components
  1. The Knife: A crescent-shaped rocker blade with a bear-themed handle.
  2. Display Stand: A matching wooden base (often walnut or birch) for safe storage and display.
  3. Packaging: Original boxes from this era were often simple cardboard with "The Ulu Factory" branding
