Design & Build Description
  • Blade Design: Features a wide, beefy clip-point blade reminiscent of the SOG Bowie. It is characterized by its thickness (0.2"), making it capable of "hard use" where typical folders might fail.
  • Handle Ergonomics: The handle uses checkered Kraton rubber scales, providing an extremely secure, non-slip grip even in wet conditions. It is bookended by brushed stainless steel bolsters for added durability and a classic look.
  • Locking Mechanism: Unlike later versions that use the Arc-Lock, the S4 model uses a traditional, heavy-duty lockback system. It features a "negative-draft" locking bar that relies on leverage for a rock-solid open position.
  • Carry & Accessories: It was originally sold with a heavy-duty Cordura nylon sheathrather than a pocket clip, reflecting its identity as a belt-carried tool for field use.

Historical Significance

The Tomcat S4 was produced across three main locations during its run: Santa Monica, CA (1988–1989); Edmonds, WA (1989–1995); and Lynnwood, WA (1996–2002). It is highly collectible today, particularly the early Seki-made models with original engravings.
