Shaw-Leibowitz "Knife Fight" Belt Buckle ~ Brass Version ~ Vintage 1970`s ~ Very RARE !!

The Shaw-Leibowitz "Knife Fight" belt buckle is a highly collectible vintage accessory, typically dating from the 1970s, that was produced in a limited numbered series. This specific version is part of the brass production run, distinct from the more expensive sterling silver editions.
  • Condition is mint

Product Description
  • Design Imagery: The front of the buckle depicts a detailed high-relief scene of two figures engaged in a knife fight. One figure is typically shown lunging while the other defends, with the combatants often appearing to use Italian-style stilettos or basic daggers.
  • Material: This version is cast in solid brass, which over time develops a deep natural patina. Some versions may have been originally polished to a high gold-like shine.
  • Limited Edition Marking: The bottom edge is engraved or stamped with the limited edition number (49/1000) and the Shaw-Leibowitz signature.
  • Dimensions: While dimensions can vary slightly by specific cast, standard Shaw-Leibowitz buckles of this era are approximately 2 inches high by 2.25.
  • Craftsmanship: Shaw-Leibowitz was known for handmade, high-quality engraving and casting, often collaborating with famous knife makers like Randall Made Knives or Gerber for special projects.

Rarity and Collectibility
  • Historical Context: Produced primarily in New York during the 1970s, these buckles were marketed to knife enthusiasts and collectors of Western or "tough" Americana.
  • Numbering: Being number 49 of 1000 places this item among the first 50 produced in the brass series, which is often more desirable to collectors than higher numbers in the run.
  • Value Factors: The value of these buckles is heavily dependent on the crispness of the casting detail and the presence of the original box. While sterling silver versions have sold for approximately $325, brass versions are generally more accessible but still hold significant value due to the limited 1,000-piece run.
  • This buckle is from the knife/belt buckle collection of Col. Alan L. Laubscher.
