The blade etching commemorates the Battle of Lookout Mountain, fought on November 24, 1863, as part of the Chattanooga Campaign during the American Civil War. This Union victory, often nicknamed the "Battle Above the Clouds" due to the heavy fog that shrouded the mountain during the fight, allowed Union forces under Major General Joseph Hooker to drive the Confederate forces from the mountain slopes and ultimately contributed to lifting the Confederate siege of Chattanooga.
