Opinel # 8 Pear wood ~ Vintage
Box is in very good condition. This knife looks like it was bought in the 1960`s or 70`s, stored and never used.
- Blade: Typically high-carbon steel, which is durable and easy to sharpen but requires proper care to prevent rust. Vintage models are often found with a mirror finish.
- Handle: The "pear wood" handle is a rare vintage feature, noted for its color and unique grain.. The pear wood provides a comfortable feel in hand.
- Lock: The Virobloc safety ring allows you to lock the blade in both the open and closed positions, a simple but effective mechanism.
- Vintage aspects: While the knife is new in its box, the "vintage" designation means it is a pre-1990s model, likely made in France. Some patina may be present on the blade due to the high carbon steel.
Maintenance
- Blade: Wipe down the blade after each use. For carbon steel, it is recommended to apply a food-safe oil to prevent oxidation and rust, as noted on the Opinel Knives website.
- Handle: Hand wash the handle and avoid submerging it in water, which could cause it to warp.
- Lock: Applying oil to the rotating ring will help it move smoothly.
