Morseth Modern Model (1991) ~ Hunter ~ Vintage

The Morseth Modern Model (1991) is a distinctive hunting knife produced under the Morseth brand after it was acquired by A.G. Russell. This specific model was famously crafted by renowned knifemaker Bob Dozier in 1991.
Morseth knives are known for their high-quality materials and construction. They feature laminated steel blades with a high-carbon core and milder outer layers for hardness and flexibility. The handles often use high-quality materials like Sambar Stag antler with vulcanized spacers and brass or nickel silver guards.

Design and Construction
  • Blade Material: Satin-finished laminated steel, a signature of the Morseth brand. This construction uses a high-carbon core (often tempered to 62 HRC) sandwiched between layers of milder steel for a balance of extreme hardness and flexibility.
  • Blade Dimensions: A blade length of approximately 3.5 inches with a stock thickness of .174 inches.
  • Handle: Hidden tang construction with a cocobolo grip and a stainless steel guard and stag pommel.  A brass tang screw is used to secure the assembly.
  • Sheath: Comes with a brown leather sheath traditionally stamped "MM" on the back. Morseth sheaths are noted by enthusiasts on Dysart Knives for their internal vulcanized fiber lining, which retains the knife much like a modern Kydex sheath.
  • Measures 9 1/4" OAL , 4 1/2' blade

Historical Context
The Morseth brand was founded by Harry Morseth, who began making knives in 1936. After his death in 1967 and a brief period under his grandson Steve, A.G. Russell purchased the brand rights and equipment in 1971. Under Russell's ownership, the knives continued to be produced using original patterns but were often made by master craftsmen like Bob Dozier, who is credited with the 1991 production run.

  • Never used, carried or sharpened
  • Condition is near mint , patina & minor pitting consistent with age and storage, see all photos.

NKCA Grading system

MINT: A factory fresh knife, absolutely original as it came from the manufacturer, not carried or sharpened, a perfect knife.

NEAR MINT: A new knife that has seen sometimes, show some slight carry or shop wear, blades snap perfectly, handles show no cracks.

EXCELLENT: Shows no more than 10% blade wear, handles are sound, no cracks, blades snap good.

VERY GOOD: About 25% blade wear, slight cracks in handles, may have one lazy blade, stamping clearly visible to the naked eye, no blades changed or repaired.

FAIR: 50% blade wear, blades lazy, cracks and chips in handles, handles replaced with same type, blades repaired, stampings faint but readable with a glass.

POOR: Blades very worn, handles bad or missing, blades have been replaced with the same type, reading of the stamp is almost impossible, even with a glass, good mostly only for parts.
