Morseth Clip Point Hunter ~ Yellow Micarta ~ Vintage

Morseth Clip Point Hunter from the 1970s is a highly collectible fixed-blade knife featuring a signature Norwegian laminated steel blade and a handle made of durable yellow Micarta. Produced during the era when A.G. Russell owned the brand, these knives are renowned for their high-hardness cutting cores and "indestructible" hidden-tang construction.

Blade and Steel Specifications
Morseth knives are famous for their unique blade construction, which Harry Morseth originally imported from Norway.
  • Laminated Steel: The blade consists of a three-layer "sandwich" design with a very hard high-carbon steel core (tempered to approximately 62 HRC) for edge retention, clad between two layers of softer, tougher mild steel to prevent brittle snapping.
  • Clip Point Profile: The 1970s Hunter typically features a versatile clip point design, often measuring around 4 to 5 inches, suitable for both slicing and detail work.
  • Edge Performance: This laminated construction allowed the blade to be bent as much as 90 degrees in a vise without breaking while maintaining a razor-sharp edge.
  • Measures : 8 1/2" OAL , 4" blade

Handle and Construction
By the 1970s, after A.G. Russell acquired the brand in 1971, synthetic materials like Micarta became more common alongside traditional stag.
  • Yellow Micarta: The handle is crafted from yellow linen or canvas Micarta, a phenolic resin laminate known for its extreme resistance to moisture, heat, and impact.
  • Hidden Tang: The knife uses a "narrow tang" or hidden tang construction where the steel extends through the center of the handle and is often secured by a threaded brass or nickel silver pommel.
  • Guard and Spacers: Most vintage 1970s Morseth hunters feature a nickel silver or brass guard and decorative vulcanized fiber spacers (often in red, black, or white) between the guard and the Micarta handle

  • Condition is near mint , minor patina consistent with age, see all photos

MINT: A factory fresh knife, absolutely original as it came from the manufacturer, not carried or sharpened, a perfect knife.

NEAR MINT: A new knife that has seen sometimes, show some slight carry or shop wear, blades snap perfectly, handles show no cracks.

EXCELLENT: Shows no more than 10% blade wear, handles are sound, no cracks, blades snap good.

VERY GOOD: About 25% blade wear, slight cracks in handles, may have one lazy blade, stamping clearly visible to the naked eye, no blades changed or repaired.

FAIR: 50% blade wear, blades lazy, cracks and chips in handles, handles replaced with same type, blades repaired, stampings faint but readable with a glass.

POOR: Blades very worn, handles bad or missing, blades have been replaced with the same type, reading of the stamp is almost impossible, even with a glass, good mostly only for parts.
