Morseth Boot Knife Yellow Micarta ~ Vintage Early 1970`s
Morseth Boot Knife Yellow Micarta ~ Vintage Early 1970`s RARE
- Blade Construction: Morseth knives famously used laminated steel blades imported from Norway. This construction features a high-carbon core (tempered to 62 HRC) for a razor-sharp edge, sandwiched between two layers of milder steel to allow for flexibility without chipping.
- Yellow Micarta Handle: In vintage contexts, "yellow micarta" often refers to Westinghouse Micarta, which was originally white ("Ivorite") but naturally aged to a yellow or creamy hue over several decades due to resin oxidation.
- Handle Accents: Many vintage models include a nickel silver guard, an aluminum butt cap, and sometimes multiple spacers (typically 7) near the guard.
- Sheath: They come with a leather sheath.
- Harry Morseth Era (1936–1967): Original custom-made knives from Everett and Clinton, Washington. These are the most sought-after by collectors.
- Steve Morseth Era (1967–1971): Harry's grandson continued production until selling the brand.
- A.G. Russell Era (1971–Present): A.G. Russell purchased the brand name and equipment in 1971. Knives from this era may be marked "Morseth" but were often sold as kits or produced in larger quantities.
- Does not appear to have been used
- Leather sheath
- Condition is near mint, minor patina consistent with age, see all photos
NKCA Grading system
MINT: A factory fresh knife, absolutely original as it came from the manufacturer, not carried or sharpened, a perfect knife.
NEAR MINT: A new knife that has seen sometimes, show some slight carry or shop wear, blades snap perfectly, handles show no cracks.
EXCELLENT: Shows no more than 10% blade wear, handles are sound, no cracks, blades snap good.
VERY GOOD: About 25% blade wear, slight cracks in handles, may have one lazy blade, stamping clearly visible to the naked eye, no blades changed or repaired.
FAIR: 50% blade wear, blades lazy, cracks and chips in handles, handles replaced with same type, blades repaired, stampings faint but readable with a glass.
POOR: Blades very worn, handles bad or missing, blades have been replaced with the same type, reading of the stamp is almost impossible, even with a glass, good mostly only for parts.
