Morseth Boot Knife  Yellow Micarta  ~ Vintage Early 1970`s  RARE

Morseth boot knife with a yellow micarta handle is a highly collectible fixed-blade dagger known for its unique laminated steel and historical transition between makers. These knives typically feature a compact design with a blade around 4.1" and an overall length of approximately 8.5"

 Details
  • Blade Construction: Morseth knives famously used laminated steel blades imported from Norway. This construction features a high-carbon core (tempered to 62 HRC) for a razor-sharp edge, sandwiched between two layers of milder steel to allow for flexibility without chipping.
  • Yellow Micarta Handle: In vintage contexts, "yellow micarta" often refers to Westinghouse Micarta, which was originally white ("Ivorite") but naturally aged to a yellow or creamy hue over several decades due to resin oxidation.
  • Handle Accents: Many vintage models include a nickel silver guard, an aluminum butt cap, and sometimes multiple spacers (typically 7) near the guard.
  • Sheath: They come with a leather sheath.

Historical Eras
  • Harry Morseth Era (1936–1967): Original custom-made knives from Everett and Clinton, Washington. These are the most sought-after by collectors.
  • Steve Morseth Era (1967–1971): Harry's grandson continued production until selling the brand.
  • A.G. Russell Era (1971–Present): A.G. Russell purchased the brand name and equipment in 1971. Knives from this era may be marked "Morseth" but were often sold as kits or produced in larger quantities.

NKCA Grading system

MINT: A factory fresh knife, absolutely original as it came from the manufacturer, not carried or sharpened, a perfect knife.

NEAR MINT: A new knife that has seen sometimes, show some slight carry or shop wear, blades snap perfectly, handles show no cracks.

EXCELLENT: Shows no more than 10% blade wear, handles are sound, no cracks, blades snap good.

VERY GOOD: About 25% blade wear, slight cracks in handles, may have one lazy blade, stamping clearly visible to the naked eye, no blades changed or repaired.

FAIR: 50% blade wear, blades lazy, cracks and chips in handles, handles replaced with same type, blades repaired, stampings faint but readable with a glass.

POOR: Blades very worn, handles bad or missing, blades have been replaced with the same type, reading of the stamp is almost impossible, even with a glass, good mostly only for parts.
