John Primble 5514 ~ 4 Blade Stockman ~ Vintage

John Primble 5514 is a vintage multi-blade pocket knife, often referred to as a Congress pattern rather than a traditional Stockman, though the terms are sometimes used interchangeably in secondary market listings. Historically manufactured for Belknap Hardware & Manufacturing Co., this model typically features four blades and synthetic Delrin handles designed to mimic the appearance of natural bone. Made in the 1970`s to early 80`s

Design and Blade Configuration
While many Stockman knives feature three blades, the John Primble 5514 is widely documented as a 4-blade pattern.
  • Blade Types: Traditionally includes two sheepsfoot blades and two pen blades.
  • Blade Material: Most vintage specimens utilize high-quality carbon steel, though some later or specific runs may use stainless steel.
  • Finish: The blades are often full polished and may feature the "John Primble" or "Finest Steel" etching.
  • Action: It is a manual-opening slipjoint knife, meaning it does not have a mechanical locking mechanism

Handle and Construction
The use of Delrin (a durable DuPont thermoplastic) was a common mid-to-late 20th-century alternative to bone, offering better resistance to impact and chemicals.
  • Handle Material: Delrin scales, frequently "jigged" to provide a textured grip and aged-bone aesthetic.
  • Bolsters and Liners: Features nickel silver bolsters and typically brass liners.
  • Length: The closed length is approximately 3 to 3.875 inches, depending on the specific production era.

  • Never used, carried or sharpened
  • Original box
  •  Condition is mint
