Case XX Blue Scroll Stag Cheetah ~ 1977 ~ Vintage
The 1977 Case XX Blue Scroll Stag Cheetah (Pattern 5111 ½L SSP) is a highly collectible vintage folding knife prized for its distinct pivoting swing-guard mechanism and limited one-year production run. It was released by W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. as part of a special 1977 factory-assembled "Blue Scroll" premium stag collection.
Design
- The Blade: Features a mirror-polished or satin-finished stainless steel clip point blade. The face of the blade is deeply etched with a distinctive blue scrollwork pattern featuring the Case brand name.
- Swing Guard: Equipped with a functional nickel-silver "swinging arm" or floating guard. The guard rests parallel to the handle when closed and pivots outward to block the fingers from slipping onto the blade when fully opened.
- Handle Scales: Crafted from genuine India Sambar Stag antler. The stag handles feature natural deep grooving and are often described with an amber or burnt-tan tone.
- Shield & Trim: Highlights a prominent nickel-silver "Double Oval Open-C" Case shield inlaid into the stag scale. It features polished nickel-silver bolsters and solid brass liners.
Specifications
- Pattern Number: 5111 ½L SSP.Dimensions: Measures 4 ⅜ inches to 4 ⅝ inches long when closed and stretches to roughly 7 ⅞ inches when fully extended.
- Locking Mechanism: A mid-lockback design requiring the user to depress the exposed backspring spine near the rear bolster to unlock and close the blade.
