Case Tested XX Split Back Whittler 6383 Green Bone ~ 1920-40 ~ Extremely Rare !!
- Pattern Number: 6383 (the '6' denotes bone handle, '3' denotes three blades, and '83' is the pattern).
- Closed Length: 3 ½ inches.
- Handle Material: Genuine Green Bone (often referred to as "bovine" bone by collectors), a jigged bone with a distinctive aged green tint characteristic of the Tested era.
- Blade Configuration:Construction: Split-Back Design, featuring two springs that taper and are separated by a wedge to support the three blades, allowing the master blade to ride on both springs.
- 3 Blades: Includes a large Clip point master blade and two smaller pen or secondary blades (Spear and Spey).
- Hardware: Nickel silver bolsters and liners with carbon steel blades (typical for the 1920–1940 period).
- Tang Stamp: Features the "CASE TESTED XX" stamp, dating it specifically to the 1920–1940 manufacturing window
- Requires adult signature at time of delivery
- Does not appear to have been used much if at all
- Condition is near mint, some minor rub, see all photos
NKCA Grading system
MINT: A factory fresh knife, absolutely original as it came from the manufacturer, not carried or sharpened, a perfect knife.
NEAR MINT: A new knife that has seen sometimes, show some slight carry or shop wear, blades snap perfectly, handles show no cracks.
EXCELLENT: Shows no more than 10% blade wear, handles are sound, no cracks, blades snap good.
VERY GOOD: About 25% blade wear, slight cracks in handles, may have one lazy blade, stamping clearly visible to the naked eye, no blades changed or repaired.
FAIR: 50% blade wear, blades lazy, cracks and chips in handles, handles replaced with same type, blades repaired, stampings faint but readable with a glass.
POOR: Blades very worn, handles bad or missing, blades have been replaced with the same type, reading of the stamp is almost impossible, even with a glass, good mostly only for parts.
