Case 8327 SS Small Stockman ~ Mother-of-Pearl ~ Vintage 1997
The Case 8327 SS is a premium, highly collectible Small Stockman (or Mini Stockman) folding pocket knife manufactured by W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co.. It is widely recognizable by its multi-blade configuration and elegant Mother-of-Pearl handle scales.
Deciphering the Case Pattern Number (8327 SS)
Case uses a standardized numbering system to describe the material, number of blades, and factory pattern of their knives:
- 8: Denotes the handle material is genuine Mother-of-Pearl (MOP).
- 3: Indicates the knife features three distinct blades.
- 27: Identifies the factory frame layout, which is the Small Stockman pattern.
- SS: Specifies that the blades are crafted from Tru-Sharp Stainless Steel, a high-carbon alloy engineered for excellent corrosion resistance and reliable edge retention.
Technical Specifications
- Closed Length: 2.75 inches (6.99 cm).
- Overall Length: 4.75 inches (12.07 cm) when open.
- Weight: Approximately 1.7 ounces (48.2 g).
- Liners & Bolsters: High-polish nickel silver bolsters, cap, and liners over stainless backspacers.

- Locking Mechanism: Non-locking slip-joint design.
Blade Configuration & Functionality
The 8327 pattern packs three versatile, mirror-polished utility blades pivoting from opposite ends of the handle frame:
- Clip Point Blade (Main): Measures roughly 1.875 inches long. It features a sharp, controllable point optimal for detail work and everyday piercing or slicing tasks.
- Sheepsfoot Blade: Characterized by a straight cutting edge and a rounded spine curve down to the tip. It provides high strength at the point, making it excellent for heavy pressure carving, woodwork, or executing clean, flat cuts.
- Spey Blade: Traditionally used for livestock tasks, this blunt-tipped blade serves as an exceptional all-purpose utility canvas for opening packages or scraping without accidentally puncturing materials.
