Belt Buckle Depicting 5 knives ~ Vintage - Rare !!!
This is a vintage brass belt buckle from 1994 a depiction of 5 knives made by the Anacortes Brass Works Company. It is a high quality , all brass with a black background on front. It is stamped on the back " COL. AL LAUBSCHER ". Research indicates these were a factory special order made for this person. There may be only less than 10 made. It measures 3 1/8" x 2 1/4". It has never been used and is mint condition in the box with paperwork.
- Military Service: He received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1958 after graduating from Stanford University with an engineering degree.
- Command Roles: As a Lieutenant Colonel, he commanded the 237th Combat Engineer Battalion in Germany. He later served as the District Engineer for the Galveston District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
- Decorations: His awards included the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star.
- Personal Life: Originally from California, he spent his retirement in Mechanicsburg, PA. He passed away on November 9, 2015, at the age of 80.
Colonel Laubscher received an engineering degree from Stanford University and an Army commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1958. In addition to his stateside assignments, his Army career, spanning 30 years, included one tour of duty in Korea, two in Germany and three in Vietnam. His awards for duty in Vietnam included the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge. Also included in his military awards were three awards of the Meritorious Service Medal, five awards of the Bronze Star Medal and two awards of the Legion of Merit. Colonel Laubscher held three command assignments as a field grade officer. As a Lieutenant Colonel, he commanded the 237th Combat Engineer Battalion in Heilbronn, Germany during the Cold War. As a Colonel within the Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program, he was the District Engineer of the Galveston District, responsible for navigation, flood control and other civil works functions along the Texas Gulf Coast. During his last military assignment he was the Commander and Director of the U.S. Army Engineer Topographic Laboratories located at Fort Belvoir, VA and was responsible for developing advanced topographic systems for the U.S. Army. Colonel Laubscher retired from the U.S. Army in 1989. After his military career and one year as a vice president of a consulting engineer firm, Colonel Laubscher returned to public services with the State of Virginia, first as a Regional Director in the Department of Air Pollution Control and then as a Regional Permit Manager in the Department of Environmental Quality. He retired from his service with the State of Virginia in 1998.
